Embedded Software Development
Embedded Software is what gives the device its functionality and the connectivity capability. This is the area where there has been a lot of effort in developing high level tool chains such as those based on Eclipse. Systems which embrace safety - an increasing number – are particularly difficult. This is another area where OAC has vast experience.

Eurotherm 2000 Products Eurotherm DCS System

Most companies can benefit from assistance from an outside company but this company must contain the experience necessary to ensure success. The founder of OAC is Dr George Turnbull who has spent most of his working life developing successful products, first in Eurotherm as a development engineer (below left), then in his own company TCS (below centre) within the Eurotherm Group, and then in the position of Group Technical Director of Eurotherm International (below right).
The earliest product was a stand-alone chart recorder which facilitated the launch of the Chessell Company. The second product – arguably the world’s first microprocessor-based process controller - could also be used in a standalone mode but was also designed to be capable of integration with minimum effort into a large process control system. The third product – for controlling diffusion furnaces – integrated several controllers into a furnace controller which could then form part of the total semiconductor fabrication facility.
After leaving Eurotherm he was Group Technical Director of ICS Triplex and as such was responsible for the development of the Trusted Safety Shutdown System. This was truly the ultimate triple modular redundant system.

Kevin Toon was the Development Manager for this project and was a co-founding partner of OAC. He is a recognised expert in the Safety Standard IEC 61508 (Trusted was certified to SIL 3.
